Piccola Cucina is the premiere manufacturer of almond based foods influenced and made by an Italian mother and daughter. Each product is made with the utmost care and attention; handmade and manufactured in a dedicated gluten free commercial facility in Winnipeg, Canada. This commitment to excellence maintains the high integrity, quality and freshness on which the business runs. Piccola Cucina prides itself on the relationship with its suppliers. In an effort to maintain its commitment to gourmet, high quality products, we sought out the best California almonds with Treehouse Almonds. The almond flour is the perfect texture, taste and purity for our almond based products.

Our products are handmade using all natural ingredients, without the use of preservatives or chemicals. Remaining true to our Italian roots, we use traditional family recipes that are a reminder of the important things in life; getting back to basics, enjoying time with family and friends and making memories that last a lifetime.

Products include 6 flavours of Italian macaroons as well as almond pie & tart shells, all free from gluten, dairy, grains, soy, corn, yeast, vegetarian & low in sodium with a vegan option as well.MACAROON_group

A Brief History of Macaroons - Created by Italian Monks; Perfected by Piccola Cucina

 

There is a lot of debate about the exact origin of Macaroons, although many histories believe this confection can be traced back to Italian monasteries. The first macaroons were almond meringue cookies similar to today's amaretti, with a crisp crust and a soft interior. They were made from egg whites and almond paste (a combination of equal parts of ground blanched almonds and sugar, mixed with egg whites). The name of the cookie comes from the Italian word for paste, maccarone (mah-kah-ROW-nay). Today, these treats are enjoyed all over the world in a variety of styles.

 

Fast forward to 2009 and Piccola Cucina (Little Kitchen) was born from a passion for family, love, sharing and enjoying good quality food. Owned and operated by a powerhouse team of mother and daughter; this duet joined forces to deliver handmade, gourmet baked goods, using traditional family recipes. Piccola Cucina now provides an ever-growing selection of products that warm the heart and comfort the soul, including a variety of flavour creations of the traditional Macaroon.

 

Products are available online through www.piccolacucina.ca and through gourmet specialty and natural food stores in parts of Canada with plans for expansion into the US.
